Key points:
AI cannot be listed as an author. Only humans can be accountable for a manuscript’s accuracy and integrity.
Disclosure is mandatory. State in the Methods or Acknowledgments section which AI tool was used, its version, and its purpose (e.g., “ChatGPT-4 was used to improve English language clarity in the Discussion section; all content was reviewed and verified by the authors”).
Authors are fully responsible for all AI-assisted content, including checking for factual accuracy, fabricated references, and originality.
AI-generated images/figures are not permitted as representations of original data, except in articles that study generative AI itself.
Basic grammar/spell-check tools do not require disclosure.
