DETERMINANTS OF BEHAVIORAL INTENTION AND USE BEHAVIOR OF QRIS DIGITAL PAYMENT SYSTEMS IN JABODETABEK AMONG MSMEs

Suresh Kumar

Abstract

The rapid diffusion of digital payment systems has reshaped transaction practices among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in emerging economies. In Indonesia, the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) plays a strategic role in promoting cashless transactions and financial inclusion. Despite its widespread adoption, variations in continued use among MSMEs indicate the need to better understand the behavioral mechanisms driving QRIS utilization. This study investigates the determinants of behavioral intention and use behavior of QRIS among MSMEs in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area by integrating trust and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2). A quantitative research design was employed, with data collected from 221 MSME actors through an online survey. The proposed model was tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that trust, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, and habit have significant positive effects on behavioral intention. In contrast, facilitating conditions do not exhibit a significant influence. Furthermore, behavioral intention significantly predicts actual use behavior, confirming its mediating role between individual perceptions and QRIS usage. The study contributes to the digital payment and technology adoption literature by reaffirming the applicability of UTAUT2 in the MSME context while highlighting trust and habit as dominant drivers of sustained QRIS adoption. From a practical perspective, the findings suggest that payment service providers and policymakers should prioritize trust-building initiatives, system usability, experiential value, and habit formation to strengthen long-term QRIS usage among MSMEs.
