Evaluation of Waste Shelter Temporary (TPS) in Balikpapan Selatan

Abstract


Abstract. Balikpapan Selatan is the most populated area in Balikpapan, with amount of population is 150,528 people. Several TPS in Kecamatan Balikpapan Selatan looked poorly maintained, such as messy waste outside the TPS area and the TPS building that had been damaged. This coould be caused by the  increasing amount of waste. Objectives: The objectives define the evaluation of TPS in Kecamatan Balikpapan Selatan, The aims was carried out with the analyzing the feasibility of TPS from an operational technical perspective. Method and results: The method used is observation and sampling of waste at 3 TPS locations, namely Damai Baru TPS, Sepinggan 3R TPS, and Gunung Bahagia TPST. The observation was conducted in 8 days according SNI 19-3694-1994. Conclusion: The results showed that the waste generation in each TPS was 0.11 kg/person/day, 0.30 kg/person/day, and 0.39 kg/person/day. The composition of waste at the Gunung Happy TPST is dominated by inorganic plastic bottles, while the highest composition of waste at TPS 3R Sepinggan and TPS Damai Baru is food waste and fruit vegetables. The characteristic test results show that the waste in the three TPS has the potential to be used as compost.
