Pengaruh Resirkulasi dan Aerasi Terhadap Penurunan Konsentrasi BOD dan COD dari Air Limbah Grey Water dengan Media Honeycom

Abstract


Abstract. Domestic wastewater contributes as a major polluter in rivers in Indonesia, of which 53.28% has been heavily polluted. The existence of river pollution will disrupt the health, environment, social and economy of the community. Domestic wastewater treatment systems are generally subjected to aeration and recirculation processes, either separately or simultaneously. Objectives: The purpose of this research was to study the effect of recirculation and aeration on reducing BOD and COD concentrations in domestic wastewater. Method and results: This research was conducted experimentally by treating domestic wastewater using an aerobic biofilter system with honeycomb plastic media. In this research, 4 reactors were used, namely the recirculation and aeration system in reactor A, aeration system in reactor B, recirculation system in reactor C, and without using recirculation and aeration systems in reactor D. The conditioning and growth of microorganisms in the reactor were carried out for 14 days until the biofilm is formed. The BOD and COD concentration tests were carried out every 6 hours for 24 hours. Conclusion: The results showed that after 24 hours, reactor A could reduce the concentration of BOD by 93.65% and COD by 94.68%, in reactor B by 94.84% and 91.13%, in reactor C by 89.29% and 91.13%, while in reactor D only 78.17 % and 86.57%. The optimum conditions occurred in reactor B which got the best results in reducing the BOD concentration up to 93.7% and COD to 93.5% at residence time of only 12 hours
