Female Students' Expectations and Motivations for Entering the Construction Industry

Abstract


This study focuses on empowering female students in engineering programs to actively participate in the Indonesian construction industry. Given the notable underrepresentation of women in this field, the research is vital for cultivating a future pipeline of female professionals. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study utilizes semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. Women’s empowerment is conceptualized as a comprehensive process, with findings identifying three key stages of transformation: personal transformation, where individuals embrace empowerment; relational transformation, emphasizing the importance of family support beyond financial assistance for female students' education; and environmental transformation, underscoring the critical role of educational institutions, the construction industry, and governmental support in facilitating female engineering students' entry and success within the construction sector.
