Abstract

This study aimed to assess the operational efficiency and sustainability of the Banica Public Market located in Barangay Banica, Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines. Additionally, the research sought to establish the relationship between the market's operations and its sustainability. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, utilizing a convenience sampling technique with specific inclusion criteria. The sample consisted of 350 respondents, comprising both vendors and customers of the Banica Public Market, with data collected from the second week of December 2022 to the first week of January 2023. Data were gathered using a researcher-developed questionnaire focused on the operational degree and sustainability level of the Banica Public Market. The analysis and interpretation of the data employed statistical tools, including frequency count, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, all processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The findings revealed significant differences in the perceived degree of operations of the Banica Public Market based on respondents' sex and highest educational attainment; however, no significant differences were found when respondents were categorized by age or type. Similarly, a significant difference in sustainability levels was observed when respondents were grouped by sex and educational attainment, while no significant differences were noted by age or type of respondents. Furthermore, the study identified a significant relationship between the degree of operations and the level of sustainability of the Banica Public Market.
